As strange as it sounds, I think of photography as "speaking camera" ...
having a skill that, like a foreign language, opens doors to experiences
and discoveries that I otherwise would surely have missed ... things like
fire department trainings, a baby's birth, a wedding, or a fashion show.
I love this about photography and so can usually be found with a camera
in hand. Even when the camera isn't with me, I look at the world as if
through the viewfinder, imagining how I would photograph an interaction,
a mood, a feeling, a humorous aside, a fleeting moment in time, or the unique
spirit of another human being. I take and take and take photos until I feel
like the photo reveals something of the essence of the person or moment.
